Fragments of a black hole: Yours, mine, ours

‘Fragments of a black hole: Yours, mine ours’ depicts three black squares made of stoneware clay. Each sits proud of the wall with deep, black surfaces that have holes erupting from their depths.

In this work, the artist uses the metaphor of astronomical black holes to explore the idea of pain we carry inside of us yet cannot always access nor process, often from early life trauma, absence or loss. The artist also turns to colour theory to understand black as the only colour that is complete, as it holds all light that reaches it. Each black square therefore not only represents an aspect of our inner lives, but also acts as a psychoanalytic “container” of our projections.
